Dried Lemon Peel

This should be titled: How To Ruin Your Fingers
Who knew that peeling lemons
could be so painful?
I bought a bag of organic lemons and
oranges last week and, as anyone who buys organic knows,
they go bad very quickly.
So, I had to find recipes to use them up.

First I peeled the lemons and placed the peel on
a plastic wrap covered dehydrator sheet.

Then I made a salt/sugar syrup and canned the peeled lemons
with cinnamon and cloves.

Lemon peel after 8 hours in the dehydrator.
Nice crisp lemon peel.

  1. Hey, we just started http://greenfession.com - our site where you can confess your environmental transgressions and learn what you can do to change!

We thought it would be a fun way to get people to talk about their efforts, and more importantly, for people to comment and provide solutions.

So yeah, we’re just trying to spread the word and get some links back to our site! We do have a few ads on the site, but they're simply to pay for the website script and hosting :)

Thank you! Let's make a change!

  2. Delightful blog! I read the whole page, and will go dig deeper after I post this comment. Love all the interesting foods, and combos. Question about the lemons. How do you use them after you've canned them? I used to have a small business selling specialty jams, butters, and marmalade's I made. Love what you have here!

  3. Lille Diane - honestly I have NO idea!
Hopefully I will find a few recipes soon to use them in.
I have found some morrocan dishes that use preserved lemons, so we'll see what happens in the next few months. IF I get inspired!
