A New Baby!

~
A New Baby!!!
Egg #3 hatched!

The first baby chick!

After it hatched it snuggled under Lavender's wing.
Now it's drying off and waiting for
its sisters (hopefully)
to hatch.

First day of Spring baby!

This is egg #1 it was the first to pip,

but it hasn't hatched yet.....

We Have A Pip!!!!

Egg #1 has a pip in it!!!!
And I heard peeping from egg #3!!

Strange Egg

~
I love weirdo eggs.
This strange egg was on
the floor of the coop this morning.

I've been getting 1 big egg a day
from the 3 big girls,
so either they are taking turns each day
or 2 girls haven't been laying.

And this strange egg is a practice egg
for one of the ladies getting ready to
start laying again.

It has a nice thick shell,
which suprised me when I picked it up,
because it looks like a soft shelled egg.

Pretty Girl

~
Here are some pics
of the ladies.
I thought they were especially pretty today.

Pretty Honey

And Zela too.

Rockin' Rollin'

-
When Lavender went outside today
for her potty break ,
I saw one of the eggs
in her nest move!
I picked it up and I could feel
the baby chick moving inside!
Wow!
(It was the egg marked #1)

What's Up? Chicken B..Ah,Never Mind

I love fluffy butts!

More Dirty Feet

Mud, mud, glorious mud
Nothing quite like it for cooling the blood
So follow me follow, down to the hollow
And there let me wallow in glorious mud

(The Hippopotamus Song)

Mud Wrestling

-
Spring is here!
The ladies had a fun time digging in the mud yesterday.

Yum! Sprouted scratch - tasty!

Dirty Beak.

Butter digging her hole to China....
for Chinese fried worms, of course!

Ha, Honey has her eyes closed.

Zela-digging daintily.

Yum, more mud.

Eagle eyes.

"Hmmm, what did I just eat?"

Waving Wing

-
I candled again last night and saw little chicks!
They were moving around in the eggs and I could pick out 2 little legs and a beak shaped blob.
In one, I even saw a little
wing waving back and forth.
It is so amazing to watch their growth!

Down To Five

I took the clear egg out and opened it.

This is what I found.

Just a normal egg, not a baby chick and nothing had or would ever develop from it.
I'm glad I took it out though, because eggs like this can eventually become rotten and explode. Yuck!

First Candling!!

I candled for the first time!

First I had to buy a high lumen flashlight and then.....

I think the last one is clear i.e. it's not developing. Sad. But there is something going on in the other eggs!

We're All Friends

Catty is mildly interested in Lavender.
Mostly she's wondering, "Why is there a chicken in my living room? And when is it leaving?"

Catty overlooks Lavender's nest.

"Are you done yet?"

This is a pic of Lavender sleeping.
See-her head is tucked under her wing.
Awwww, so cute!
And she is such a good broody.
Nothing bothers her!
I even vacuumed next to her and she didn't turn a feather.
Not impressed.

Go! Away!
Seriously, what are you looking at?!

Boo!
