Another Use For Canning Rings

I have a million canning rings.

There is no way that I will ever use all of them at the same time, so

either I have to start stuffing mattresses or I need to find a use for them.

Egg Sandwich

Grease the rings really well.

I used butter.

Place them in your frying pan.

Crack eggs into the rings.

Cook on low, flip and cook on the other side.

Pop cooked eggs out of the rings.

Serve on round bread or hamburger buns.

Yummy!

Thanks for the eggs Ladies!

I love knowing where my food comes from.

For example, the broccoli seeds that I started in my house last spring, planted and watered all summer and then fed to my Ladies (chickens) last week turned into an egg that I ate today.

I finally caught, on film, the chicks trying out their wings. They can't just walk anymore, they always have to "fly".

Lavender was still sitting on the #4 egg.

She abandoned it Sat. afternoon.

The other chicks were too active and

she wanted to show them what to eat, ect.

I opened the #4 egg.

The baby was fully developed,

but it had died without pipping.

Strange Egg

I love weirdo eggs.

This strange egg was on

the floor of the coop this morning.

I've been getting 1 big egg a day
from the 3 big girls,
so either they are taking turns each day
or 2 girls haven't been laying.

And this strange egg is a practice egg
for one of the ladies getting ready to
start laying again.



It has a nice thick shell,
which suprised me when I picked it up,
because it looks like a soft shelled egg.

First Candling!!

I candled for the first time!

First I had to buy a high lumen flashlight and then.....

I think the last one is clear i.e. it's not developing. Sad. But there is something going on in the other eggs!

The Eggs Are Here

The eggs arrived yesterday!

They were well wrapped in lots of bubble wrap.

The temps dropped yesterday and we had a huge snowstorm with 8+ inches of snow.

The eggs are from Utah.

What a long, cold trip for 6 tiny babies!

So far, the eggs look good!

None were cracked or frozen.

I let them sit on my counter at room temp. for 12 hours.

The experts recommend 12-24 hours, but I couldn't wait any longer!

Letting them set at room temp. helps the air cell (in the egg) settle. The eggs are all shaken up from their trip. I just hope they're not scrambled.

The broody hen pen in the garage was too cold for her.

Lavender is broody.......again.

*sigh*

She is broody about 4 times a year.

I've decided to let her (try) to hatch some eggs.

I don't have a rooster, so I bought some fertile eggs from a BYCer

They are silkie eggs. Hmmm, the poodles of the chicken world!

It has a light that turns on a 8am and turns off at 8pm.

Food and water, although she's not very interested in eating.

And a cozy nest. She's still sitting on her golf balls, but soon there will be eggs!
